Delta Environment Commissioner Cracks Down On Illegal Structures, Orders Removal Of Buildings On Waterways

In a bid to protect the environment and restore natural waterways, the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ejiro Jamani, has ordered the immediate removal of two illegal buildings erected on natural waterways in Idjedo Quarters, Otokutu Ughelli South LGA and Willie Street, Okumagba , Warri South LGA both in DeltaState.

The commissioner, who visited the flood prone area, expressed dismay at the brazen disregard for environmental regulations and the potential harm caused to the ecosystem.

Addressing newsmen, Mr Jamani said that “These illegal structures pose a significant threat to our waterways and the environment as a whole, Residents must do their part to compliment government’s efforts in ensuring a flood free and safe environment by erecting buildings only on approved land.

We won’t tolerate anyone that wants to sabotage the Environmental Restoration plans of His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori MORE AGENDA, Mr Jamani stated.

The buildings, constructed without proper permits and approvals, have been identified as a hazard to the free flow of water and a potential source of pollution. The commissioner has directed the owners to demolish the structures within a specified timeframe, failure which will lead to further action.

This move has been hailed as a victory for environmental conservation and a testament to the commissioner’s commitment to protecting the state’s natural resources. “We commend the commissioner for taking a bold stance against environmental degradation,” said Mr Louis Omaye. “This action sets a precedent for responsible development and environmental stewardship.”

The removal of the illegal buildings is expected to restore the natural waterways and ensure the long-term health of the ecosystem.
