Conor Gallagher Joins Atletico Madrid In €40 Million Transfer From Chelsea

England midfielder Conor Gallagher has finalized his move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, signing a five-year contract with the Spanish club. The 24-year-old leaves Stamford Bridge after the two clubs agreed on a reported €40 million ($43.7 million) transfer fee.
Gallagher, who spent the past two seasons as a regular in Chelsea’s squad, had been the subject of transfer speculation as he entered the final year of his contract. His future became uncertain under new manager Enzo Maresca, prompting the move to La Liga.
In a statement, Atletico Madrid confirmed the signing: “Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Conor Gallagher, who has signed for the club until 2029.”

During his time with Chelsea, Gallagher made 95 appearances and scored 10 goals, even captaining the team on several occasions last season. Prior to his breakthrough, he enjoyed loan spells at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom, and Crystal Palace. Gallagher was also part of England’s squad that reached the Euro 2024 final earlier this summer.
Chelsea bid farewell to the midfielder with a post on X, saying: “Thank you, and good luck, Conor.”
In his own farewell message on Instagram, Gallagher expressed his gratitude: “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true. It’s been an absolute honour every time I put on the shirt, and a dream come true to captain the team. I will cherish these memories forever and appreciate the love and support from the fans.”
Gallagher’s move marks the next chapter in his career as he looks to make an impact in Spain with Atletico Madrid.
