Gunmen Assassinate DELSU Bursary Staff In Asaba Residence

Gunmen have reportedly assassinated Mr. Olisaemeka Chukwuma of the Bursary Department, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka.
The 56-year-old staff was killed in his home in Umueji, Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Friday night.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine via a telephone conversation, the institution’s bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, described the incident as “a very shocking and sad unexpected death.”
She continued: “He was a very good jolly fellow. He had a good relationship with everyone. You will never hear him raise his voice against anyone. He was always smiling and happy.”

The bursar prayed that God will give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also, a university staff, Mr. Moses Darah who took to his Facebook page to mourn the loss, said the deceased “was known for his peaceful and jovial nature until he was assassinated in his Asaba home on Friday.”
“I urge the police authorities in Asaba to thoroughly investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added.
Meanwhile, sources close to the family revealed that he had returned to his hometown for his usual weekend visit when the incident occurred.
One of the said sources further lamented the safety situation in Asaba, saying, he usually comes home every weekend.
Adding that it is unfortunate that he came back yesterday for his usual weekend and was assassinated in his place at St. Bridges area of Umueji quarter, in Asaba.
“As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe, we are confused over the situation,” the source said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and assured that the police are investigating the matter.
