Oborevwori’s ‘On Your Mandate We Stand Defection: Consolidation Of Bitter Pain For Deltans

Telegraph Award: Delta Under Oborevwori Stands Out - Bureau Chief

As always, I’ve been inundated with calls, messages and chats waiting on my response to the much preempted state burial for the dead PDP in Delta state in the shape of defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his disciples to the APC.

In display of the commonplace depravity of the Nigerian politicians, same APC Oborevwori’s legion of hype men led by double commissioner Charles Aniagwu said was nonexistent in Delta is where they have chosen to swim over to, like shameless Nyesom Wike abandoned his malaria infested PDP to be chief cheerleader for an APC he saw as cancerous.

Again, as always, for the Delta populace that has been cowed by weaponised stomach infrastructure and the bought over media that rewards charlatans with cheap excellence awards, it is the perceived win or lose effect of Oborevwori’s defection on the key actor that is gaining publicity.

For me, it’s nauseating to see this as a win or lose for the concerned individuals. None of them has lost. Except for those who have forgotten that Delta APC was just an overflow PDP. Nigerian politicians will be always be politicians.

Obororevwori’s defections was open secrets weeks before it was announced. The waiting was to perfect the terms of the grudge reunion, chiefly power and benefits sharing for the governor and those who have held forth the APC before now. They are all of same PDP stock.

It is common knowledge that the defection went through the approval of the President, with all interests represented. Of course the governor won’t defect to concede 2nd Term ticket to anybody. Neither is he relinquishing leadership of Delta PDP.

He would get both tickets with a placeholder to concede PDP votes to him when election comes. In the associated horse trading, no key APC power broker was kept in the dark. They were informed, coopted in the interests sharing, though some lambs would inescapably be sacrificed. So anyone feigning shock is playing mind game.

In the balance of interests, everybody seems favoured. And the cheerleaders are hyping the perceived contribution of the perceived protagonists.

For those eager to hear my response, those cheering to this dirty politics of coating the PDP thieving hegemony over Delta with a new flag are delusional, blinded by stomach infrastructure and ignorance.

While the key actors count gains and losses, the collateral damage to the common good is inciting. Oborevwori’s defection to APC means consolidation of mindless pillage on Delta’s commonwealth, escalation of shoddy projects, increased borrowing and in the long run, arrested development.

As Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa emptied the state’s vaults to bankroll a failed Atiku presidential bid and his own vice presidential pursuit, Oborevwori will predictably borrow Delta neck deeper in debt to secure his purchased defection and open the treasury into funding the reelection for self and Tinubu’s second term. The monthly income from federal allocations and IGR would not be enough to oil the ‘on your mandate we shall stand” bootlicking.

Delta will suffer. Many say it’s all being knitted together by the ultimate godfather, Chief James Ibori. He’s linked with moving the governor and everybody else who counts to APC. They cheer him as maverick, Mardona and chief fixer. And he’s claiming the glory.

They are all fighting for their pockets and killing the common good. Ask yourself if you’re one of the blind followers. What federal project has Ibori’s political might brought to Delta since his return from UK jail.

Ibori is powerful, connected to Tinubu and remains Delta political ace powerbroker, yet no federal road is motorable in the state. Ex-Convict Ibori is Odidigborigbo yet he can’t get Tinubu to implement his expansion plan for the Osubi Airstrip to make it more functional to boost Delta state economy.

Delta has three airport facilities, none maximally serving interests of the state and her people. The airstrips the Ibrus built as the first airport facilities had since been shut to business. Osubi built by Shell and operated as one of the most outstanding economic milestone in the history of the state has gone under following Shell’s exit.

The Osubi where the defecting Governor Oborevwori is major operations support services contractor now operates just only one flight daily to Lagos. No flight to Abuja.

The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo is busy welcoming and praise singing Governor Oborevwori for defecting to APC, yet he has failed to implement his own reported N2Billion approved for expansion for the Osubi by President Tinubu.

The third airport facility built by the state by the defecting thieving PDP in Asaba serves South Eastern Nigeria more than majority citizens of the owner state. So misplaced by location, it’s far easier for Deltans outside the North Senatorial District to fly Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country from Benin City (Edo) airport. And we are clapping for the nuisance called PDP defection to APC.

For Okowa, after wasting Delta state money to sponsor Atiku’s election in 2023 in desperation to be Vice President, the defection for him is to avoid EFCC’s handcuffs and probably gets a prodigal son’s chance to fight Ned Nwoko for the Delta North Senatorial seat.

For Tinubu, Oborevwori defecting to APC, it is win-win to ease his second term bid. That absolutely does not improve the economy of Delta and Nigeria. After looting politicians defect to APC for protection. All these defections are not done for interest and good of the people.

What is in APC that has attracted the mass defection of PDP members in Delta? Is it the worsening hardship, inflation and insecurity the Tinubu led federal government is inflicting on the choking Nigerian populace? Is this how democracy works in the US?

Bottom line: Nothing to cheer about this nuisance defection by Oborevwori and the PDP that has made governance a game of sharing of the commonwealth to only the grabbers of power.

It is inciting, it is bellyaching, so reprehensible and all well meaning Deltans must condemn it. It is anti development, a worsened subjugation of the state’s majority alienated, deprived populace.

A one party Delta state means the state has already been rigged in the worst appeal to sustain the governance by hijackers, charlatans and pillagers of the commonwealth come 2027. Calling ruinous Delta PDP government APC is sheer turning the old wine in a new skin, same sour taste remains.

It means no Delta vote will count in the 2027 polls. With a guaranteed APC guber ticket as the highest bidder buying with the state’s commonwealth, Oborevwori will keep one leg in the PDP, determines who gets the ticket to step down for him as the lone candidate for reelection for a second term.

Another proof of how depraved Delta politicians can be, the Keyamos, Nwokos, all who cursed Oborevwori as classless, ignorant, too unfit to govern a state of highly informed and accomplished achievers have suddenly passed a vote of confidence on Oborevwori as far so too qualified that the rest of them that he should be returned unopposed in 2027.

Like I always say, Deltan informed elites worshipping Oborevwori is like Lagos state crowning MC Oluomo as Governor because of his contribution to helping to keep the Tinubu dynasty in place by bullying the voters to submission during elections. But Lagos is not Delta. Not every tom, dick and harry can be governor.

The nuisance Oborevwori’s defection is a robbery that will haunt and plunge the state deeper into arrested development, a state of rogue rule.
