BREAKING: Armed Suspected Fulani Kidnappers Gunned Down in Pre-Dawn Security Operation In Abraka

In the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, a team of security operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Abraka, in conjunction with local vigilantes, successfully intercepted and neutralized a group of armed Fulani men suspected of kidnapping along the Abraka–Benin Expressway, off the Railway Station axis, in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State.

The high-risk operation, which began at approximately 2:00am, followed credible intelligence reports of suspicious movements in the area.

Upon engagement, the suspects, believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30, opened fire on the security personnel, prompting a swift and calculated response that led to their deaths.

Four AK-47 rifles were recovered at the scene, highlighting the level of threat the group posed to residents and travelers along the busy expressway.

Photographs obtained from the Abraka Police Station, where the bodies and seized weapons were taken, reveal the severity of the confrontation. These images, which will accompany this publication, show the lifeless bodies of the suspects and the automatic weapons recovered.

A local vigilante member who participated in the operation stated: “These were no ordinary criminals. They came fully prepared and were clearly familiar with the terrain. We believe they were surveying the area for a major kidnapping operation.”

Community sources had previously raised alarms about the presence of unfamiliar faces, often seen loitering or moving discreetly around forested areas near the expressway. This successful operation is being hailed as a major win for local security forces.

While the identities of the deceased are yet to be formally verified, all available indicators point to their involvement in organized kidnapping activities.

Authorities are currently investigating whether they were part of a larger criminal network operating across state borders.

Residents of Abraka have expressed relief and gratitude, but have also called for heightened surveillance and sustained patrol of the Abraka-Benin highway and adjoining forest routes.
