Delta Higher Education Ministry Officials Visit DELSU, As VC Solicits For Completion Of Abandoned Projects

Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has pleaded for the completion of all abandoned projects being executed by the Delta State Government in the University.

Professor Asagba made the plea during a visit by officials of the State’s Ministry of Higher Education on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Abraka main campus.

He said the completion of the abandoned projects would make learning in the University better.

Professor Asagba went on to enumerate his achievements since he came onboard as Vice Chancellor. Some of the achievements included renovation of buildings, provision of furniture as well as creation of two new faculties viz Faculty of Computing Science and Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The most prominent of his administration’s achievement according to Professor Asagba, was the 2026 ranking of DELSU as the best state university in Nigeria, the 12th best university in Nigeria as well as best university in South-East and South-South, Nigeria, by the Times Higher Education (THE).

Professor Asagba while concluding, appreciated the state government for giving his administration the needed support and for creating more universities to meet the university education yearnings of Deltans.

In her speech earlier, Permanent Secretary in the State’s Ministry of Higher Education and leader of the delegation, Mrs Felicia Rone-Ovugboh, congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his achievements since assumption of office, noting that DELSU is the best university among the state’s own universities.

Mrs Rone-Ovugboh assured the Vice Chancellor that the State Governor and Visitor to the University, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, is working on the enumerated challenges of the University.

She further informed the DELSU management that its request for funds for accreditation purposes is receiving attention.

On the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), she advised DELSU students to take advantage of the scheme as the repayment plan is friendly which is up to 20 years, emphasising that students from other parts of the country were taking advantage of the opportunity.

Mrs Rone-Ovugboh in conclusion assured the University management that Oborevwori will always give attention to the needs of the University.
