BREAKING: Court Slams Door On Bail For Otulu Attack Suspect, Francis Oduwanor, As Net Tightens Around Other Suspects

Justice appears to be closing in on the suspected masterminds behind one of the most shocking acts of violence ever carried out in Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, as the Delta State High Court sitting in Ogwashi-Uku has firmly denied bail to a principal suspect linked to the violent attack on the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and members of his entourage in Otulu Ogwashi-Uku.

According to sources at the palace, “the ruling marks a major step in the ongoing legal battle to bring those responsible for the bloody assault to justice.”

The attack, which occurred during a royal visit to Otulu Ogwashi-Uku three years ago, sent shockwaves across the kingdom after a violent mob descended on the entourage of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku while the monarch had travelled to the community to offer prayers ahead of the annual Ineh Festival. What should have been a peaceful cultural and spiritual visit quickly turned into chaos when the mob launched a coordinated assault that left one man, Cletus Opara, dead and several others seriously injured.

Investigations by the Nigerian Police later revealed that the mob had allegedly been mobilized by notorious troublemakers, Francis Oduwanor and his brother, Christopher Oduwanor Odiakose. In the aftermath of the attack, both men were declared wanted by the Nigerian Police following the intervention of the Delta State Government.

Authorities say the crimes went far beyond the violent attack itself. Francis Oduwanor had allegedly embarked on a brazen campaign of lawlessness within Otulu Ogwashi-Uku, including the illegal impersonation of a traditional ruler. In defiance of Delta State laws regulating traditional institutions, he reportedly declared himself the “Obi” of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku and began parading himself as a king despite the existence of the recognized authority of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku.

Law enforcement agencies eventually began dismantling the criminal network behind the violence. One of the key attackers, Samson Eleme, popularly known as “One Eye,” was arrested, prosecuted, and ultimately sentenced to death for his role in the crimes committed in Otulu Ogwashi-Uku.

After spending more than a year on the run, Francis Oduwanor was eventually apprehended by security operatives and is currently being held at the Federal Correctional Centre in Ogwashi-Uku. He now faces multiple criminal trials across different courts for a string of alleged offenses tied to violent disturbances and unlawful activities within the Ogwashi-Uku community.

One of those trials has already reached its final stage, with legal teams reportedly preparing to file their final written addresses before judgment is delivered. Two additional criminal trials involving the suspect are still pending before the courts.

Security agencies are also intensifying efforts to capture Christopher Odiakose, the younger brother of Francis Oduwanor, who remains at large. He was last year formally declared wanted for murder by the Edo State High Court through the Nigerian Police Force Zonal Headquarters in Benin. Police authorities issued a widely circulated wanted notice for Odiakose after linking him to the killing of a resident of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku. A reward of one million naira has been announced for credible information that leads to his arrest, and law enforcement officials say the search for him continues across multiple states.

Across Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, residents have welcomed the latest developments as a clear sign that those responsible for the violence are finally being held accountable.

Community members say the steady progress of the criminal trials has restored confidence in the justice system and brought a renewed sense of security to Otulu Ogwashi-Uku and surrounding communities.

Speaking on the developments, Diokpa Moses Anwai, a respected resident of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku, commended the authorities for pursuing the perpetrators relentlessly and ensuring that the victims of the attack were not forgotten.

He also praised the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku for standing firm in the pursuit of justice and security within the kingdom.

According to him, the community has witnessed a significant improvement in peace and safety since the arrest of the suspects and the ongoing court proceedings.

He noted that residents remain committed to supporting the judicial process and will continue to attend court proceedings to ensure that justice is fully served.

For many in Ogwashi-Uku, the High Court’s refusal to grant bail to one of the principal suspects sends a strong message that violent attacks, criminal impersonation of traditional authority, and the shedding of innocent blood will not go unpunished. As the trials continue, attention now turns to the remaining suspects still evading arrest — with security agencies vowing that every person connected to the crimes will eventually face the full weight of the law.
