Delta CP Orders Trial Of Officers Caught Collecting Money With POS In Viral Video

The Delta State Police Command has commenced disciplinary action against two officers captured in a viral video allegedly collecting money from a motorist using a Point of Sale (POS) machine at a police station in Asaba.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on January 13, 2026, involved officers attached to ‘C’ Division, Asaba, and has since sparked public outrage over police misconduct.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the act, describing it as embarrassing, unprofessional, and unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which strictly prohibits extortion and the use of POS machines or any electronic payment platforms within police formations.

The affected officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim, are currently undergoing an orderly room trial, with the Command assuring that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be made public.

CP Oyeniyi stressed that no officer is authorized to demand or receive money from members of the public under any guise, warning that acts of extortion and abuse of office will not be tolerated.
He further urged officers to uphold professionalism and respect the fundamental human rights of citizens in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), noting that the action taken against the officers would serve as a deterrent to others.

The Command also commended members of the public for exposing the incident and encouraged residents to report cases of police misconduct through its Complaint Response Unit.
