LGSC Aware Of Inadequate Staff In PHCs, Committed To Addressing Challenges—-Director Of Nursing Services, Enafoma

The Director, Nursing Services in the Delta State Local Government Service Commission(LGSC), Mrs. Patricia Enafoma, has said that the leadership of the Commission is aware of the shortage of health workers in the Primary Health Centres across the State, assuring the Commission’s commitment to nipping the challenge in the bud.

Enafoma stated this in her office when a team from the Community Engagement Strategic Initiative (CE-SI) working under a Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), paid her an advocacy visit.

The Director of Nursing Services said that the Chairman of the Commission have been making efforts to ensure that the issue of employment of PHCs’ staff becomes a thing of the past .

She affirmed that inadequate and poor staffing for the PHCs would definitely have negative effects on service delivery, and that is why the commission is doing everything possible to see that this gap is filled as soon as possible.

Enafoma explaining that the ongoing recruitment exercise by the state government for healthcare workers and staff being handled by the State Ministry of Health will also go a long way in correcting staff shortage in the health care sector.

Responding to a suggestion that some internship health professionals/students should be absorbed by the Commission for them to work at the PHCs, Mrs. Enafoma stated that internship was for secondary and tertiary health facilities.

The State Chairman of ACOMIN, Pastor Gregory Sifo and the State Program Officer of the Community Engagement Strategic Initiative, Mr. Henry Nobea in their separate remarks, urged the Commission to carry out an aggressive engagement of workers (recruitment) considering the importance of healthcare service delivery.

They noted that there had been unabated challenges confronting the various PHCs , particularly lack of staff and emphasized the need for the Commission to change the narratives .
