Okolugbo Faults APC Primaries, Warns Of Party Crisis

A former commissioner who represented Ndokwa Nation in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Sir Kenny Okolugbo, has criticised the conduct of recent primary elections within the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that weak internal democracy could undermine party unity.

In a post shared on Facebook, Okolugbo said: “As I was flying back to Abuja today the reality of the true test my party would face dawned on me. Internal democracy is the most important part of DEMOCRACY!”

He expressed concern over the conduct of direct primaries in several areas, stating: “We must be honest the direct primaries in many areas have presented us as a laughing stock!!!”

He further questioned the process, adding: “Counting from 5 to 100 to 1000; when weak candidates are fielded RIGGING becomes inevitable!”

Okolugbo warned that such situations could destabilise the party, noting: “Party becomes divided, bad blood persist, internal sabotage becomes rampant and unity is eroded.”

Recalling his experience in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he added: “This was how my former Party disintegrated to the situation it has now found itself.”

He called for stronger internal democracy and credible processes to maintain unity and stability within the party.
