Peter Obi Resigns From African Democratic Congress

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi disclosed this in a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, citing concerns over internal crises and external interference within the party.

He clarified that his decision was not influenced by any personal grievances against the party’s leadership, noting that he still holds key figures in high regard, including the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

According to Obi, the same issues that led to his exit from the Labour Party—particularly what he described as interference by state actors and internal divisions—are beginning to surface within the ADC.

He pointed to “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division” as troubling developments within the party, adding that such distractions hinder the focus on addressing critical national challenges.

Obi further criticized what he described as a style of politics driven by control and exclusion, rather than service, unity, and genuine nation-building.
