Okpoko Resigns From APC, Cites Leadership Crisis In Delta
Chief Hon. Julius Okpoko, a former Minority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal challenges and a loss of confidence in the party’s current leadership in Delta State.
In a resignation letter dated May 3, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 4 in Okpe Local Government Area, Okpoko said his decision takes immediate effect.
The former lawmaker, who described himself as a foundational member of the APC in Delta State, expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for their backing over the years. He specifically thanked his political leader, Ovie Omo-Agege, as well as the party structure in Okpe LGA and across the state.
Okpoko, however, lamented what he termed a deviation from the party’s original ideals, alleging that the APC in Delta State has been overtaken by “infiltrators” and recent defectors.
According to him, these developments have significantly altered the party’s leadership structure and direction.

He noted that after a careful assessment of the party’s recent activities, he no longer believes he can achieve his political aspirations within the APC under the current circumstances. This, he said, informed his decision to seek a new political platform where longstanding members would be better recognized and rewarded.
The former Minority Leader also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a Senior Legislative Aide in the 9th Senate, alongside other roles he held within the party.
Okpoko’s resignation adds to the growing list of political shifts within Delta State, as realignments continue ahead of future electoral contests.
