Police Foil Child Abduction In Warri, Rescue Toddler, Reunite With Family

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against child trafficking and related crimes with the rescue of a two-year-old child in Warri.

The child was rescued on May 10, 2026, by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) at Igbudu Market following a tip-off from vigilant residents who became suspicious of a man carrying a sack bag. Upon interception, the residents discovered that the bag contained a toddler, raising alarm over a suspected abduction.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fejiro Obaduemu, was nearly lynched by an angry mob before police operatives arrived promptly at the scene. The officers rescued both the suspect and the child, preventing what could have turned into a tragic situation. Obaduemu, who sustained injuries during the mob attack, was immediately taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being placed in custody.

Police investigations carried out the following day led to the identification and location of the child’s parents. The toddler was subsequently reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri, bringing relief to all involved.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by an unidentified accomplice within Warri to steal the child. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accomplice and dismantle the broader criminal network behind the act.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children and tackling human trafficking in all its forms. He also urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity involving children to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line.

The police say the successful rescue underscores the importance of community vigilance and swift response by law enforcement in curbing crime and safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
