Owa-Abbi Drug Bust: Delta Police Arrest 56-Year-Old, Recover 21 Bags Of Indian Hemp

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man and recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was carried out on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Team B, following what the police described as credible and actionable intelligence.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives raided the suspected criminal hideout and arrested Lucky Oyiboka, 56.

A thorough search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.

The Command added that investigation had been intensified to determine the extent of the suspected illicit drug network and identify other persons who may be connected to the operation.

The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, according to the statement.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.

The Command also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that could assist the police in preventing and tackling criminal activities.

It assured members of the public that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
