Obaseki Mourns Dan Orbih As Family Announces Death Of 64-Year-Old Politician

Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the death of Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent Edo politician and former National Vice Chairman, South South, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 64.

The Orbih family announced his death in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the family.

The family, under the name of Chief M.C.K. Orbih, described the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, saying the family received his passing with profound sadness and a heavy heart, but in total submission to the will of Almighty God.

The statement said Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his children, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; as well as other members of the extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the painful loss.

It added that further details concerning the burial arrangements would be announced in due course.

Reacting to the death, Obaseki described Orbih as a prominent Edo son and renowned politician whose passing represented a significant loss to Edo State and Nigeria.

In a condolence message, the former governor said he received the news of Orbih’s death with profound sadness, describing the deceased as an influential voice in Edo State and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.

Obaseki noted that Orbih provided leadership to the PDP in Edo State for many years as the party’s State Chairman before subsequently serving as its National Vice Chairman, South South.

According to him, Orbih’s long years of engagement in public affairs earned him a place in the political history of Edo State, adding that his contributions to the PDP in Edo State and Nigeria would be remembered.

Obaseki extended his deepest condolences to Orbih’s family, friends, political associates, colleagues and numerous well-wishers.

He particularly sympathised with the deceased’s wife, children and loved ones, praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

He also prayed that God would grant Chief Daniel Osi Orbih eternal rest.

Obaseki is currently a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the School of African Studies, Boston University, USA, and is a former Governor of Edo State.

The family, meanwhile, concluded its announcement with a prayer for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
