Bayelsa @ 30: Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown Commends Governor Diri, Celebrates State

The Member representing Sagbama Constituency III in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Chief Mrs. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, has congratulated the Government and people of Bayelsa State on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Bayelsa State was created on October 1, 1996, out of the old Rivers State.

In a congratulatory message to mark the milestone, Ndiomu-Brown described the creation of Bayelsa as the outcome of the struggles, sacrifices and vision of the state’s founding fathers.

She paid tribute to traditional rulers, elders, youths, women and political leaders who contributed to the struggle for the creation of the state and an identity for the Ijaw nation.

“Today, we remember and celebrate those heroes — traditional rulers, elders, youths, women and political leaders who fought for an identity for the Ijaw nation. Their labour was not in vain.

“We are no longer where we used to be, and for that, we give all glory to God,” she said.

The lawmaker specially commended the Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Pastor Peter Akpe, for what she described as redefining governance and accelerating development in the state.

According to her, Bayelsa has witnessed infrastructural transformation under Governor Diri, including regular power supply through the state-owned gas turbine and the construction of what she described as major senatorial roads.

She also highlighted the expansion of road networks across the state, saying the development had opened up Bayelsa from what she described as a “one-entrance, one-exit state” to one accessible from different directions.

Ndiomu-Brown said internal roads had been constructed in more than 85 per cent of communities in the state from 2020 to date.

“From the massive legacy projects to the opening of Bayelsa from a one-entrance, one-exit state to a state accessible from all angles through robust road networks, to the construction of internal roads in over 85% of communities from 2020 till date, the story is clear: Bayelsa is moving forward,” she said.

She further commended the administration’s deliberate policy of completing abandoned projects and ensuring that no project was abandoned.

The lawmaker said the policy was important because “Bayelsa money must work for Bayelsans”, describing the management of public funds for economic sustainability and the common good as worthy of emulation.

Ndiomu-Brown, on behalf of her family and the people of Sagbama Constituency III, congratulated Governor Diri, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, the Judiciary, traditional rulers and all Bayelsans at home and in the diaspora.

“At 30, Bayelsa has come of age. Though we are not yet where we want to be, our trajectory is clear and our future is bright.

“Let us continue to put our hands together, re-jig our motives, and work for a greater Bayelsa of our dreams,” she said.

She wished Bayelsa State a happy 30th anniversary, describing it as “The Glory of All Lands.”

Ndiomu-Brown also wished Sagbama Constituency III, Bayelsa State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria continued progress.
