Delta Guber: Ogboru, APC Close Case, As Okowa Begins Defence July 23

The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in the Delta State Governorship Election, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, today closed his case at the Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Asaba, where Chief Ogboru is challenging the declaration of Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of March 9 governorship election.

The Petitioners (Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru and APC), having called about twenty (20) witnesses, decided to close their case.

Apart from calling witnesses, the Petitioners tendered volumes of documentary evidence which include the voters’ registers and result from polling units level up to the State level (EC8A’s to EC8E’s).

Meanwhile, the 1st Respondent, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was supposed to open his defence tommorrow, 17th July, 2019, pleaded for time to enable him study properly, the case of the Petitioners.

Notwithstanding the application of the 1st Respondent, the Tribunal insisted that the 1st Respondent’s time starts running from tomorrow, 17th of July, 2019.

By Tuesday next week when the Tribunal will reconvene based on the application of the 1st Respondent, Dr. Okowa, would be left with five days to state his defence to the petition/case of the Petitioners, instead of the ten days originally allocated to him.
