Bandits Kidnap 42 In Zamfara Community

Bandits have kidnapped 42 persons including women at Gobirawar Chali village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
An indigene of the village, who gave his name as Malam Abdullahi said the incident happened as a result of the seizure of an AK-47 rifle from a bandit, who went to the village on kidnap mission.
According to him, “The bandit had wanted to kidnap an indigene of the village but was overpowered and his gun seized, after which he ran into the bush and reported the issue to his fellow bandits.”
He said, “The bandits later came in large number, invaded the village and ransacked houses where they kidnapped several persons numbering about 42.”
He maintained that the villagers had on several occasion, been attacked by bandits whom he said were not far from the village.

“They have been attacking us over the years, as many people have been killed and properties worth millions of Naira carted away by them”, he added.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu said, “What happened yesterday in Gobirawar Chali was that, one bandit went to the village with a gun”.
“The people of the area mobilised themselves, arrested him and retrieved his gun but they failed to report the incident to the security agents for further action”.
According to Shehu, the bandit escaped from the village and went back to his people who later invaded the village, retrieved their gun and also abducted the people.
He, however, maintained that the police command has since drafted its personnel to rescue the kidnapped persons.
