Delta NYCN Suspends Hope George, Three Others Over Alleged Breach In Constitution

The Delta State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN has suspended four of its members indefinitely for breach of the union’s constitution.

Those suspended are the
Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Youths Development, Comrade (Ambassador) Hope George, Comrade Raphael Fuludu, Comrade Wilson Ikhioya and Comrade Rock Vincent.

The suspension order was part of the resolutions reached at the first State Executive Council meeting of the union held in Asaba.

In a statement signed by the Delta State Chairman of the NYCN Comrade Kenneth Okorie, the union affirmed that the affected members contravened the union’s law and caused disaffection among members and therefore advised the general public not to have any dealings with them on youth related matters.

The union also resolved to use all legal means to recover its Coaster bus which has been in the hands of Comrade George for over four years after leaving office as state Chairman of the council.

The NYCN Delta chapter commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the harvest of projects in all parts of the state and for giving Delta youths a pride of place in the Scheme of things.

On the Oxford Astravenecca vaccine, the youth body advised all to take it as it was safe and endorsed by the World Health Organisation WHO in addition to boosting the immunity of citizens against the virus.

The NYCN condemned in strong terms the kidnapping of school children in parts of the country by gunmen and called on the security chiefs and other relevant stakeholders to map out strategies on the best way to secure schools across the nation.

Reacting to the development, George said the news that he was suspended was laughable, adding that NYCN in Delta was factionalized.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) via a phone conversation, he said that until the restraining order from the court is vacated, those parading themselves as leaders of the body were not qualified to do so.

His words: “Two factions exist. One is in court, the other said they did a purported election.”

On the retrieval of the Coaster bus with him, he asked “what bus?”

“Rather than think of how to pay me the over 30 million naira Delta NYCN owes me they are talking of a bus.

“Since there is a faction I did not know who to approach for my money. As soon as the rightful executive is known I will approach them for the money they owe me,” he said.

Adding: “The constitution is clear on issues arising. You cannot be chairman if you are not below 35 years. The group that did election are all 40 years and above. Go and check their records. They are depriving young deltans from holding these positions. They also did same in the local government areas by imposing those that are not qualified for a second term. All these made the other faction go to court.”

He continued: “They don’t even have any right to suspend anyone. It’s only the group I belong to like Boys Court that can. NYCN is the umbrella body for all groups. I am just hearing of my suspension for the first time from you. I left office in 2017. When I contested I was below 35.”

According to him, he will not support those parading themselves as leaders if Delta NYCN.

“Lets wait for the outcome of the court case,” he added.
