DELSU DVC Advocates Ethical AI Adoption For Sustainable National Development
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Engr. Prof. Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, has called for the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for scientific research, innovation and sustainable national development.
Prof. Owamah made the call while delivering the lead paper at the 2026 Maiden Hybrid International Conference of the School of Applied Sciences, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
Presenting a paper titled “Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research and Innovation for Sustainable National Growth and Development,” the DELSU academic explored the transformative role of AI in scientific research, education, engineering, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, governance and other critical sectors of the economy.
He noted that Artificial Intelligence is revolutionising scientific discovery by accelerating research, enhancing productivity, driving innovation, improving decision-making and creating new pathways for sustainable national growth and development.
Prof. Owamah also emphasised the need for the ethical adoption of AI, strategic investments, capacity building and interdisciplinary collaboration to position Nigeria for greater global competitiveness in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
He expressed appreciation to the Rector, the management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, the conference organising committee and participants for the opportunity to contribute to the intellectual discourse.
