DELSU Hosts 8th International Science Conference On Innovation, AI For Climate Resilience

The Faculty of Science, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, successfully hosted its 8th International Conference (FOSIC 2025) from November 11–14, 2025, at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III, Abraka.

The conference, themed “Accelerating Science, Innovation, and AI for Unmatched Climate Resilience and Impactful Business Research,” brought together leading scholars, researchers, policymakers, and industry experts from within and outside Nigeria to deliberate on emerging scientific innovations and artificial intelligence applications for sustainable development.

The opening ceremony, held on the 12th of November, featuring distinguished guests including Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, Commissioner for Higher Education, Delta State; Hon. Samuel Oligida, Commissioner for Trade and Investment; Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Augustine A. Atonuje, Chief Host and Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Nelson Ndume from the Institute for Water Research, Rhodes University, South Africa, highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in advancing water and environmental research across Africa.

Lead presentations were given by Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo (Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta) and Eng. Nikita Vasilev (Eight Versa, London), emphasizing scientific innovation for global sustainability.

Other highlights included plenary sessions led by Prof. Anthony I. Okoh (University of Sharjah, UAE) and Prof. O. Akpomie (Delta State University, Abraka), alongside an exhibition of innovative research products from DELSU scientists—featuring locally produced Lysine, plant-based wines, Biofortified Bean flour, Biofortified fufu powder  and solar-powered inverters.

Participants presented cutting-edge research under subthemes spanning renewable energy, agrowaste bioresources, AI integration in computational systems, climate change detection technologies, bio-robotics, nanoplastic pollution, and AI-driven biotechnology.

At the end of the conference, delegates resolved to strengthen scientific collaboration, promote AI-driven solutions for climate resilience, and enhance government–industry partnerships to foster green innovation and sustainable development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Asagba, commended the Faculty of Science for sustaining a culture of research excellence and international collaboration, reaffirming DELSU’s commitment to advancing impactful scientific inquiry in Africa.
