Says Youth Activities Remain Suspended

By Daniel Dafe

Comrade Kelly Efemena Umukoro, Member representing National Youth Council of Nigeria in the State Community Policing Committee, SCPC, Delta State Command who doubles as a human rights activist and also the National President of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), Youth Wing, Worldwide has appealed to His Royal Majesty Akpomeyoma Majeroh Ojeta II, Ovie of Oruarivie-Abraka Kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, “to kindly call Efe Kigho to order,” just as he argued that youth activities in the community remain banned.

The youth leader said this in a reaction to a publication by Comrade Kigho on this news medium that gave the new Divisional Police Officer, SP Fabian Ayameh, tips on how to succeed as he goes about his duties of mobilizing police officers in the locality to tackle crime and criminality amongst other issues.

Umukoro, who frowned at the said publication on Oasis Magazine (OM), stressed that a decision has been taken by the government on youth activities in Abraka.

His words: “Youth activities remain suspended due to the gross misconduct of the then President of the Youths, Efe Kigho where he went about extorting fellow Abrakarians and brutalising youths.

“I want to first of all react to the fact that the Youths activities in Oruarivie Abraka have been suspended due to gross misconduct of activities of the Youths which caused breach of public peace, adding that Efe Kigho was usurping authority that was not his and has no right to advise the Abraka DPO on what to do.

He continued: “Furthermore, no individual has right to form anti-cult in any community. So we are warning him and calling on the police in Delta State. We are calling on the OC anti-cult unit, Asaba to quickly call this said Efe Kigho to order. He has no right to set up any taskforce as the letter of suspension on him still stands. We cannot forget how he used his office to intimidate and harass young people. He was arrested few months ago because of a case of brutality against his fellow Abraka youth whom he ought to protect. There are series of complaints of extortion of money from chemist owners. He’s not a NAFDAC member. He is not a NAFDAC official. He is not a law enforcement agent. Efe Kigho has no right under the constitution to form any taskforce and we are also advising the new DPO Abraka to be wary of elements that want to use the platform of insecurity to enrich themselves. The cases are there, the facts are there. We are not in a banana republic and we are not going to allow him do otherwise.

“We are calling on the DPO of Abraka to do his job professionally. He is not under anybody but the Nigerian Police Force. The DPO should be allowed to do his job independently without fear or favour. We don’t want what happened previously with the previous DPO to happen again. Where people hide under the canopy of assisting the police by policing and go about extorting and brutalising their fellow citizens. The Police Authority who brought the DPO knows that the DPO is answerable to the Federal Government and the Nigerian Police Force and not to any individual who wants to influence the police negatively for their own selfish aim.”

Meanwhile, Kigho has said that he remains the President of Oruarivie-Abraka Youths Council (OYC).
