Jaro Egbo Bags Master In Laws From DELSU

…Says Every Politician Needs Street Credibility, Education To Win Elections

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, was among the 4, 855 students that graduated from different academic programmes at the Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) at the weekend.

Egbo, who bagged a Master of Laws (LLM) spoke to journalists during the occasion.

According to him, despite his popularity at the grassroot, he decided to go for more education by studying Law at the Master’s level, saying in a short while, he will be through with his Doctor of Philosophy programme in Law.

In his words: “We want to prove to our younger ones that education is not scam. I hope to get my Ph.D soon to serve as a model to our younger ones that you need education to progress and serve your people. I hope someday, I will be able to teach law and impact knowledge to other persons, that way our country will be better for it.”

Adding: “Politics is a vocation and not profession,” stressing that “every politician should have what he or she is doing aside politics.”

He continued: “When I hear people say they went to get technocrats to fill offices, I laugh. We are all technocrats. I have my Masters in Law; I have experience in Law; I have experience in politics and I am celebrated by my people. So, who can be more technocrat than some of us? “This is a former commissioner and now a lawyer, are we not technocrats? So, we believe that we will serve our people better when we add education to it.”

Asked the role of street credibility in winning elections in Delta, he said: “Street credibility will make you win elections especially with the introduction of BVAS now. If you are not sellable, you can no more win elections.”

Furthermore, he said: “We were all taken aback with the ‘Obedient Movement.’ They took over all our polling booths. If not inexperience, they would have won the election. You must add knowledge to politics of today. It is not about thuggery. The days of thuggery are over. It is now about being credible and giving something to your people.”

Continuing, he said that he supported the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori because he represents both street credibility and knowledge.

He noted: “Oborevwori started with first becoming a Councilor to Supervisory Councilor, to Member of the State House of Assembly, to Speaker and then the longest serving Speaker and now Governor-elect. If you also look at his trajectory, his primary to secondary school, then going to read first and second degree. So, he is an example that there is no end to learning and you are never too old to learn.”

“This degree took me like 5 years. I did my class work, went away to do politics and then came back to finish it. We are also doing our Ph.D and we will try and try until we get it.”
