Insecurity: DELSU Warns Staff, Students To Avoid Night Movements In Abraka

Following recent happenings in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, the Management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has cautioned staff and students to avoid night movements.

In a press release by the institution on Saturday, the university, said: “The attention of the University Management has been drawn to reports of cases of criminal activities involving murder and kidnappings in and around Abraka.”

Adding: “In the light of that, the Management considers it necessary to advise staff and students to avoid unnecessary night movements which may expose them to dangerous situations,” just as staff and students were urged to be security conscious.

Recall that just recently, an Okada rider lost his motorcycle to thieves who also shot him dead. Also, the case of the killing of a food vendor who was stabbed to death was also reported, just as Fulani herdsmen are said to have kidnapped the wife of a popular chief in the community.

Meanwhile, Oasis Magazine can report that the news that a curfew was declared in the university community is untrue.

But, police sources said that security operatives are working hard to prevent an escalation of the situation.

Our security sources also appealed to the governemnt to back and equip hunters in the area to comb the bushes to scare away Fulani herdsmen who are alleged to be behind majority of the kidnap operations in the community.

Oasis Magazine gathered that just recently, police operatives in Abraka Division had an exchange of gunfire with kidnappers believed to be Fulani herdsmen. The said hoodlums are said to have withdrawn back into one of the bushes surrounding the community, just as our sources urged the government to also encourage developmental activities in the bushes around the community, citing the activities of PRESCO that have drastically minimised cases of Fulani herdsmen clashes with farmers and kidnappings in the areas covered by the company.
