End-of-Year: IHRC SMM To Hold Human Rights Summit, Award Banquet In Delta
The Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) of International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in the South-South Region has revealed plans to organize the 2023 End-of-Year Human Rights Summit and Award Banquet, featuring stakeholders consolidating meetings on issues bordering on human rights, security, and Peace-Building alongside a presentation of award to SMM Officials and other Human Actors in the South-South Region, with outstanding contributions and whose accomplishments are models of exemplary public service for those dedicated to the public good—now and in the future.
This was disclosed by the South-South Regional Coordinator for the IHRC Special Monitoring Mission and Head of Media and Strategic Communications IHRC Nigeria, Mr. Fidelis Onakpoma.
He said the event slated for 23rd December at Abraka Delta State, is aimed to develop a comprehensive experience of human rights learning by equipping potential human rights educators, advocates, activists, students, volunteers, and law enforcement officers with knowledge and skills to: a. Integrate knowledge in the fields of politics, economics, cultural diversity, gender issues, and socio-psychology in the context of human rights. b. Strategize training and methodology required for promoting human rights education in various countries across all sectors of society.

He added that the theme of the program is ‘The Future is Human Rights’, noting that the targeted audience includes tertiary institutions, human rights educators, advocates, activists, law enforcement officers, lawyers, women activists, research officers, leaders, and members of coalitions and networks, staff of NGOs and CBOs, volunteers, development actors, trainers, students, United Nations agency, Ministry of Justice officials, government officials, etc.
The program will give participants creative, concrete knowledge of how to use international and regional human rights treaties and enforcement mechanisms in their work for the protection and promotion of human rights, he hinted.
