Last Hour Christmas Rush In Warri Markets

The usual quiet seren in markets on Sundays was absent in Igbudu and other markets monitored by our correspondent in Warri on Sunday, 24th December as traders and buyers engaged in last hour rush.

They traded as if the world was coming to an end on Christmas day.

There was pedestrian jam in the said markets as well as roads located closed to the markets.

However it was observed that gates of lines and stores alloted by government particularly in Igbudu Market and Main Market were under key and lock at as the time of filing this report.

Christian traders and buyers who spoke to our correspondent explained that they had attended church service before coming to market.

Muslims who traded on livestock, onions, tomatoes and fresh pepper had a field day as there was no question of asking them if they attended mosque or not before coming to market.

Meanwhile ATMs in all the commercial banks monitored by our correspondent were not functioning as gates of the said bank premises were also under key and lock .

Operators of POS took advantage of the situation particularly at the said markets and their environs . They charged as high as # 300 and above per # 10, 000.
