The immediate past Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Godwin Adode, widely known as Coach Tete, has officially entered the race for the Delta State Football Association Chairmanship in the upcoming elections slated for September 2024.
Coach Tete, a veteran football administrator with a long-standing commitment to the development of the sport, has passionately outlined his vision for revitalising football in Delta State.

“I am deeply concerned about the sharp decline in the number of Delta-born footballers being called up for national duties,” he remarked.
“There was a time when Delta players were a dominant force in all age-grade national teams, both male and female, showcasing their talents and making our state proud.”
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of football in Delta, particularly the absence of top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League matches in the state.
“It’s painful that we no longer have the privilege of watching our teams compete at the highest level,” Coach Tete said.
“Our beloved Warri Wolves once dominated the Nigerian and African football scenes, much like Manchester City does today. Every club in the country wanted a piece of Warri Wolves players.”
Coach Tete also highlighted the challenges faced by ex-internationals from Delta State.
“We have Deltans who have served both the country and the state meritoriously, but today, they struggle to take care of themselves and their needs,” he said.
“I plan to collaborate with the state government and align with the MORE agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to rehabilitate and support these ex-internationals, making them more useful even in their retirement years.”
Looking ahead, Coach Tete pledged to restore Delta State’s football to its former glory if elected.
“When I become Chairman, I will work closely with all relevant stakeholders to bring back those glorious times,” he promised.
“I am ready to actualise the dreams of all Delta football enthusiasts.”
As the former Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Coach Tete is credited with bringing significant development and transformation to the council. He is now determined to bring that same level of leadership and dedication to Delta State football.
