Ethiope East Spelling Bee Competition: Urhuoka, Betisam, Erho Secondary Schools Shine In Abraka

Oasis Magazine Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, on Friday concluded the first stage of the 2024 Spelling Bee Competition for secondary schools in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Recall that on Tuesday and Thursday, the union held the said competition at Eku and Isiokolo respectively where six schools from the two locations clinched their spots in the final.

Results announced for Abrala location, saw Urhuoka Secondary School coming tops, as Betisam Secondary  School and Erho Secondary School, clinched the second and third spots respectively.

With this development, the said schools from Abraka will compete at the final stage scheduled to hold November 5.

Schools that qualified for the final include Bender Secondary School, Edna Royal School and Eku Girls Secondary School.

Others are Kokori Mixed Secondary School, Agbon Secondary School and Isiokolo Girls Secondary School.

Meanwhile, NUJ-Oasis Chapel through the Caretaker Chairman, Daniel Dafe Umukoro, said the competition from 2025 will be made an annual event.

He thanked the schools that participated, while urging schools that for whatsoever reason failed to show up, to embrace the project next year, saying the contest can add value to the educational sector in the council area.

He however frowned at the nonchalant attitude of the council authority.

“We got the support of the Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, Chief Harrison Jessa and even the Divisional Police Officer, Abraka Division, SP Fabian Ayameh. We hope the council chairman, Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe does better next time,” he said.
