Islamic Cleric Unleashes Threats Against Opponents Of Sharia Court In Oyo, Other Yoruba States

A video has surfaced showing a prominent Islamic cleric, known as the Mufti of Iwo, issuing threats against individuals and groups opposed to the establishment of a Sharia court in Oyo State and other Yoruba states.

The cleric’s inflammatory statements have raised widespread concern, with many warning that such rhetoric could lead to violence and public tension.

In the video, the cleric is heard saying, “To those of you in Oyo State who dare oppose the Sharia court, you should know that your mothers were not born well to have given birth to you. You can go to your shrine to express your opinions, but if you publicly speak out against the Sharia court, we will unleash a flood of consequences upon you.”

The cleric’s threats have been met with swift condemnation, with many calling on the Department of State Services (DSS) to invite him for questioning.

Others have cautioned him against inciting religious violence in Yorubaland.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has also weighed in on the controversy, stating that if the establishment of a Sharia court is against the constitution, it will not be allowed to stand.

The debate surrounding the Sharia court has highlighted the complex and sensitive nature of religious issues in Nigeria.
