Oyo: CHRSJ Condemns Continued Detention Of 27 Yoruba Nation Activists At Agodi Correctional Centre

A human rights group,the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice( CHRSJ) has strongly condemned the illegal continue detention of twenty- seven (27) Yoruba Nation activists at Agodi Prison(Correctional Centre),Ibadan by Oyo State Government under the watch of Mr. Seyi Makinde.

The group also described the continue persecution (called prosecution) of the Yoruba Nation activists by the government of Yoruba race of Oyo State as uncalled for,describing Seyi Makinde led government as enemy of Yoruba race.

It however, stated that the members of deadly Boko Haram in the Northern Nigeria with grave harmed caused to Nigeria society had been pardoned and reintegrated back to the society by the Northern and Nigeria governments.

It added that the continue persecution of the 27 Yoruba Nation Activists by the Yoruba government of Seyi Makinde for over two (2) years had caused the death of one of them,adivising Mr. Makinde to have a rethink on this subject matter by giving the remaining Yoruba Nation activists a pardon by using the instrument of perogative of mercy as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(as amended).

According to a signed Statement by the CHRSJ’s Assistant General Secretary (AGS),Pastor Micheal Agassi and copies were made available to Journalists on Tuesday,urged Mr. Seyi Makinde led Oyo State Government to choose the path of honour by pardoning the Yoruba Nation activists in line with Constitutional provision.

Pastor Agassi requested for the unconditional relsase of the said Yoruba Nation activists by saying that they committed no offence than fighting for the upliftment of their Yoruba race within the territorial shore of Nigeria.

CHRSJ Chief called on well meaning Yoruba Obas to prevail on Governor Makinde to release the detained Yoruba Nation activist unconditionally without further delaying because history was written itself on every individual for their actions and inactions on Yoruba race.

He listed the names of the said Yoruba Nation Activists as follows;
Muritala Abefe,Alabi Ogundeji,Fatunbi Wasiu,Ajani Ezekiel,Fatoki Anthony,Elegbede Adeola,Adeniyi Ademola,Isaac Friday,Adeyemo Peter,Ayanwale Rofiat,Adeyemo Joseph.

Others were; Toyin Dosunmu,Abiona Esther,Funsho Omoyajomo,Olutola Olufemi,Titi Taiwo,Amos Oluwaseyi Ogundeji,Ayanwale Saburi,Ismail Adepoju,Oritola Alabi,Fakeye Kayode,Olalere Mathew,Ibukun Sogunle and Adesokan Hammed.

Meanwhile, the State High Court 3 presided over by Hon. Justice O.M. Olagunju would continue the hearing of the persecutione charge levelled against the Yoruba Nation Activists on Wednesday the 30th day of April,2025.

The group,therefore, advised the legal Counsels to the Yoruba Nation Activists to apply for the bail of the said Yoruba Nation activists before the Court of Law because the charge agianst them, was a bailable offence in the Oyo State Law nay Nigeria amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
