Ogboru Urges Police, Army, Other Security Outfits To Do More To Tackle Insecurity In Abraka

Hon. Noble Council Ogboru, representing the people of Ward 2 Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government, Delta State, has called on security personnel in the area to do more in dealing with the rise in insecurity in the university town.

In a social media post on Wednesday, titled: ‘Together Against Insecurity: Protecting Lives, Restoring Peace,’ he noted that in recent times, Abraka community has been living in fear, saying: “Day after day, we hear of kidnappings, armed robbery, and other forms of criminal activity.”

Adding: “Despite the presence of several security groups, the situation is getting worse.”

He added: “We have the Nigeria Police Force in Abraka. We have the Nigerian Army. We have the Anti-Cult group, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), the Nigeria Hunter and Forest Security Service (NHFSS), the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and the Rangers Security. All these groups are supposed to protect us. They are armed. They carry guns. Yet, the criminals still operate freely. So we ask – what are they doing with all these guns?”

He continued: “People are being kidnapped almost every day. Homes are being robbed. Cultists roam freely. And still, these security forces are in town. Something is clearly wrong.

“In truth, some of these so-called security personnel are part of the problem. Some cultists pretend to be security officers. Some armed robbers wear uniforms. Even kidnappers and ritualists hide behind the name of security. They do this to deceive us, and to protect themselves from being caught. But we see through it now.

“As they say, “It is the rat inside the house that tells the rats outside that there is food in the house.” The people causing us pain are among us. They live here. They know our movements. They know when we sleep and when we wake. They are using the cover of security to harm us.”

He asked: “With all the security groups in this small town, how is it still not safe?”

He called on the Commissioner of Police and other authorities to look into this.

“Let them withdraw all these guns from those who are misusing them. Let us return to the ways of old – where a few trusted and brave men and women protect the community. People we know. People we trust. People who are ready to risk their lives to keep us safe. And let us support them – pay them, feed them, and honour them,” he said.

According to him, “true security comes from within the community,” adding: “It comes from unity, from truth, and from love for one another.”

“We must stand together. We must speak out. We must expose those who hide behind fake uniforms to commit evil,” he averred.

“Enough is enough. Let us rise, as one people, and say: Together Against Insecurity – Protecting Lives, Restoring Peace,” he concluded.
