Unenurhie PG Holds First NEC Meeting, Calls For Support

The newly elected president-general of Unenurhie community in Evwreni kingdom, Ughelli North LGA of Delta state, Mr. Williams Ilayah held his first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on 26 April, 2025 at the community town hall with a call for support from members and residents of the community.
Presenting his welcome address to members and guests which comprised selected members of the Odion’Rode-In-Council, UCDU Branches, Ilotu, Idiotu (women leaders), youth leaders and other past leaders and elders, the president-general who was highly overwhelmed reiterated the fact that, unity was a driving force behind the success of community leadership. He therefore called on all Unenurhie people, both home and in diaspora to give him and his executive members the needed support to move his leadership forward in terms of accountability, government attention and human/capital development.
The NEC meeting which was described by the immediate past president-general, Mr. Peter Maison in his brief remarks as the “think-tank and engine room of the Unenurhie Community Development Union” saw to the inauguration of different “standing committees” which also have the same value as ministries in both state and federal government in the country.
First amongst the standing committees was the marriage committee headed by Mr. Augustine Abrucha, followed by street chairmen headed by Evang. Friday Akioja, this was followed by education committee headed by Mr. Morrison Edafe, the next was town-planning committee headed by Mr. Philip Asiphri, this was followed by light/BEDC committee headed by Mr. Moses Odjenimor.
After these set of inauguration, the PG again constituted the ex-officio members to support the UCDU leadership in their day to day administration. Those constituted as ex-officio members were Evang. Isaac Oriodofe, immediate past vice president-general, Young Erhiurhoro, immediate past secretary-general and Mr. Andrew Imoni, a leader of thought in the community. This was again followed by the constitution review committee to be chaired by Ven. Dr. R. M. U. Obegor.
Finally, the inauguration was concluded by inaugurating a 14-member civil defence committee to be chaired by Mr. Alex Ephron and supported by Mr. Shederack Imoni as vice chairman and Mr. Godspower Orunuaduvwe as the team leader respectively. However, the PG announced to the NEC body that, after due consultation with elders and stakeholders, he had extended the tenure of the youth leadership with six months.
The NEC meeting however ended with a call by some elders and past leaders in the community to reconcile the present imbroglio in the community over leadership issues and to also issue card permit by the president-general to all accredited members of the UCDU Branches worldwide.
