Itakpe-Ujevwu Train Service: Nigeria Railway Corporation Temporarily Shuts Abraka Station

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary closure of its Abraka Station on the Itakpe-Ujevwu Train Service corridor following heightened security concerns in the area.

However, the Delta State Police Command’s Spokesman, Bright Edafe a Superintendent of Police (SP), has claimed that there was no cause for alarm.

Edafe who appeared as Guest of Orientation Panorama, a public affairs programme of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, on Voice of Delta Radio, Wednesday, said: “The recent wave of kidnapping and security breaches at Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area was painful and unfortunate, saying that the situation is being tackled headlong by his gallant officers and men stationed at strategic locations in the University town of Abraka and its environs.

The management of NRC in a statement dated 9th June, said that “As a precautionary measure, operations at Abraka Station are suspended until further notice. Normal services will resume only when the security situation improves and safety can be assured”.

Regular train services on the Itakpe-Ujevwu line, according to the statement, will continue at other operational stations while Abraka remains shut.

The NRC management also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and appealed to passengers for understanding and cooperation.

It urged travellers to stay updated by contacting customer service or visiting official NRC platforms for further information and guidance.

Abraka Station is one of the key stops on the said rail corridor, which has gained popularity for providing relatively safe and efficient travel between Delta, Edo, and Kogi States.
