Congregation Election Victory: The People Spoke Through Their Votes —Akarah

The newly elected member representating Congregation (Academics) at the Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. Emmanuel Akarah, has said that voters during the Congregation election spoke through their votes.
Dr. Akarah who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive chat, said that the people reposed confidence in him by voting for him because of his antecedents.
He added: “I have been in the university for a while and do know the nitty-gritty of the issues bedeviling the institution. Also, I have a long list of colleagues and students as friends and thus considered as accessible.
He continued: “I have held several administrative positions where I served meritoriously.”
According to him, he campaigned with a two point agenda to focus on improved staff welfare and an enhanced work environment in the university, which he said he is very committed to.
He urged those he is representing at the Council to continually give pointers to him of areas of need that should be tackled.
He rated the work environment in the citadel of learning as poor, adding that “maximum output from the staff demands maximum motivation by providing basic necessities for their work.”
He promised to engage the management in meaningful and constructive dialogue.
Reacting to reports that he is opposed to the Peretomode-led administration, he said such was blown out of proportion, stressing that the management does not have any need to be afraid of his victory.
He said: “It is a team work, as they cannot do it alone. We have to help management to achieve their goals.”
Akarah commended the management for the stride in infrastructural development presently going on, but called on the university to focus on sports by providing an enabling environment and standard facilities so that staff and students can avail themselves of such sport facilities to ease up themselves after the day’s engagement.
