DELSU VC, Egwunyenga Chairs 172nd Regular Meeting Of Senate Amidst Ovation

Barely 10 days of assumption of office as the 7th Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, the well-nurtured Professor of Parasitology and Entomology, entered the Senate Chambers of the institution amidst ovation from members, to chair his first Senate meeting.
While thanking Senate for the support accorded to his predecessor, Professor Victor Peretomode, he enjoined members to extend even more to his administration, as he promised to work harmoniously with all stakeholders to take DELSU to the top of the ladder amongst state and federal universities.

Speaking at the meeting recently, he dissected his robust vision for the university, while promising to focus on the welfare of staff of the institution, noting that it is the human resources in every organisation that determine the effectiveness and efficiency of facilities, structures and technology no matter their sophistication.

He added that institutional visibility and ranking in the international arena strongly depends on the institution’s dedication to ICT technology, which he vowed to address.

Reiterating the importance of universities to the nation’s development, he decried existence of internal wrangling among scholars as drawbacks to achieving the purpose of university education.

Oasis Magazine (OM) gathered that one of the decisions reached at the meeting was the setting up of a Committee to articulate the takeoff of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Asaba Campus for 2020/2021 session, as it had been approved by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa.

Meanwhile, according to sources, the VC has said that those that were queried under the Peretomode administration for obtaining a doctorate degree without permission from the management rather deserve commendations.

OM can authoritatively report that those so affected have been asked to write in order for this negative policy to be reversed.

Professor Egwunyenga will chair the first Congregation meeting of his administration in a week’s time.
