Rape: Traditional Ruler To Distribute Free Pepper Spray To Females In Osun
Worried by the increasing cases of rape in Nigeria, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi has concluded plans to distribute free pepper spray to women on Monday in his palace.
He contended that no effort should be spared to tackle the incidence of rape, which he noted, had become a daily occurrence, saying the pepper sprays would make women less vulnerable to sexual violence.
According to a statement forwarded by his media aide, Mr Alli Ibrahee to Saturday Tribune in Osogbo on Friday, Oba Akanbi observed that majority of women were unaware of the existence of pepper spray and its capacity to destabilise prospective rapists, thus making it difficult for them to accomplish their devilish act.
He called on interested females in the three local government areas in Iwoland that constitutes Iwo Federal Constituency – Iwo, Ayedire and OlaOluwa – to come to his palace by 10.00 am on Monday get the pepper spray free of charge.
Oba Akanbi, who maintained that he had already secured the permission of the Police for the free distribution of the pepper spray hinted that there would be brief enlightenment and training on protection against sexual assault as well as the use of the anti-rape items.
