Journalist Petitions ICPC Over Deplorable State Of Eku-Abraka-Agbor Road In Delta

… Urges Agency To Unravel Mysteries Surrounding The Project

A Delta born journalist, Matthew Ogune has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) over an abandoned federal road project in Abraka town.

ICPC had recently commenced investigations into federal constituency projects, fraudulently abandoned across the country between 2015 and 2019.

According to Matthew, The Project C/No. 6249: Dualization of Sapele-Ewu Road; Section 1: Sapele-Eku-Abraka-Agbor Road in Delta State which was first awarded in 2015, was to be completed on July 2017 but regretted that no progress had been made since then.

He noted that, the project, however, started on September 2017 and was expected to be completed on January 2020, adding that the length of the project is about 110.6 kilometers.

He informed the commission that the contract, valued at N112. 8 billion connecting over 12 local government areas, 200 towns and communities in Delta and Edo states is being handled by the China Geo-Engineering Corporation, CGC.

Adding that the deplorable condition of the road was used as a campaign to-do list by politicians during the 2015 general elections.

According to Matthew, the roads in the state had become death traps and called on the Commission to investigate and
unravel the mystery surrounding the abandoned project.

“Therefore, in our effort to ensure that the project does not become abandoned, and having been made aware that your Commission has embarked on a mission to unravel how many of such projects are abandoned across the country, we decided to write this petition.

“We shall be grateful if your Commission will use its good office to investigate and unravel the mystery surrounding the project, the correct status of the project and advice on how it could be completed,” the petition read.

At the time of filing this report, Oasis Magazine (OM) gathered that ICPC had acknowledged receipt of the petition and assured the petitioner that steps are being taken to look into the matter.

APPEAL FOR INVESTIGATION INTO AN ALLEGEDLY ABANDONED FEDERAL ROAD PROJECT IN ABRAKA, DELTA STATE

Dear Sir,

I start by appreciating your commission for prioritising your mandate of making sure that the people in the grassroot enjoy the dividend of democracy by the commencement of investigations into federal constituency projects, fraudulently abandoned across the country between 2015 and 2019.

We received with great joy the news that the Federal Government was committed to completing the 110 kilometers Sapele-Agbor road dualization in Delta State by January 2020, a deplorable road which was used as a campaign to-do list by politicians during the 2015 general elections.

It might interest you to know Sir, that the Project C/No. 6249: Dualization of Sapele-Ewu Road; Section 1: Sapele-Eku-Abraka-Agbor Road in Delta State which was first awarded in 2015, was to be completed by July 2017 but regrettably no progress had been made since then.

Therefore, in our effort to ensure that the project does not become abandoned, and having been made aware that your Commission has embarked on a mission to unravel how many of such projects are abandoned across the country, i decided to write this petition.

I shall be grateful if your Commission will use its good office to investigate and unravel the mystery surrounding the project, the correct status of the project and advice on how it could completed.
