Pharmaceutical Society Of Nigeria Pays Courtesy Visit To Ethiope East Council Boss

The Pharmaceutical Society Of Nigeria (PSN), Delta State Chapter has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Council, Rt. (Hon.) Pharm Victor Ofobrukueta,
in his office at Isiokolo, the headquarters of the council.

Rt Hon Pharm Ofobrukueta, being the first pharmacist to be elected as Local Government Chairman in the history of Delta State was visibly glad to receive the PSN Chairman, Pharm Kenneth Oteme (Esq) and his entourage.

Addressing the Executive Chairman, Pharm Okeme congratulated him on his recent victory at the just concluded LGC election polls.

He drew the attention of the Local Government Council boss to the nefarious activities of some self acclaimed revenue collectors who often forment means of siphoning money from them.

He pleaded with the chairman to employ more pharmacists especially in the Primary Health Centers to ameliorate the challenges bedeviling the populace.

In his words, “You are part of us and you know our problems. Please when you meet with His Excellency, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State, always champion our interest as we believe in your capacity.”

Responding, the Executive Chairman thanked them for creating such opportunity to identify with him.

He said the problem of illegal levies in the LGA will soon be a thing of the past but there are taxes that must be paid as embedded in the law.

On the issue of employment, the Chairman stated that, with the current wage bill of the local government, its quite a difficult task to undergo any current employment at the moment but at the appropriate time, the Executive Governor will do.

“Presently, he always augments the local government allocation to ease staff’s salaries and other miscellaneous,” he added.

“I’m glad to receive you this morning; my first and primary constituent is the pharmacy because that’s my profession and when I retire from politics in the nearest future, I’ll fall back to it. Hence, I don’t handle pharmaceutical cases with levity therefore all related issues of illegal collection won’t occur during my tenure. But I’ll also plead with you to engage yourselves with more social responsibilities that will serve as blueprints geared towards the developmental stride of my administration and the local government area at large. I have listened to your complaints and I’ll do the needful by channelling them to the appropriate authority,” he said.

The Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council is a SEC member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and also the State Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria.
