DELSU SUG President Writes President Tinubu, Lauds NELFUND Initiative, Rejects Rice Palliative To Students

Dear Mr. President,

Gratitude for the NELFUND Loan and Rejection of the Rice Palliative

I extend warm greetings on behalf of the over 40,000 students from Delta State University, Abraka, and its affiliated campuses.

I trust this letter finds you in good health and flourishing spirits. On behalf of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University, Abraka, and its affiliated campuses, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your administration’s initiative in launching the NELFUND loan program. This commendable effort has been instrumental in supporting our students and significantly reducing the dropout rate within our institution. We encourage you to continue this transformative work as we strive together to build a brighter future for Nigeria.

While we appreciate the intent behind the rice palliative designated for the SUG presidents, I must respectfully decline this offer for the benefit of our students. Allow me to elucidate our position:

1. Representation and Accessibility: The SUG president serves as a key representative of the entire student body. It is imperative that any support intended for the SUG presidency is ultimately accessible to all students. Regrettably, our attempts to distribute the rice palliative to the wider student population was not visible. This means that intended benefits are not reaching those who truly need them.

2.Transportation Burdens: The proposal for SUG presidents to travel to Abuja to collect the rice palliative proves to be impractical. The costs associated with transporting the rice back to Delta are nearly equivalent to purchasing the same quantity within the state. This not only defeats the purpose of the palliative but also places an undue burden on the SUG presidents.

3. A Call for Strategic Solutions: In light of these considerations, I humbly urge your administration to explore alternative means of support that will effectively address the needs of our students. The welfare of our students is my utmost priority, and I believe we can find solutions that we directly help the students.

Thus, it is with a sense of responsibility to my constituents that I must formally distance myself and the SUG from the rice palliative initiative. We remain committed to advocating for solutions that genuinely enhance the welfare of our student community.
