PGSAN DELSU Visits VC, Pledges Stronger Collaboration With Management

The leadership of the Postgraduate Students Association of Nigeria (PGSAN), Delta State University (DELSU) Chapter, led by its President, Pastor Caleb Ivworin, on Thursday, paid a formal courtesy and familiarization visit to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Samuel Asagba.

This was part of efforts to strengthen institutional relationships and advance the welfare of postgraduate students.

The visit marked the first official engagement between the newly elected PGSAN executive and the Vice Chancellor since the assumption of office by the current leadership of the association.

The said visit provided an opportunity for both parties to interact, build rapport, and discuss areas of mutual interest aimed at improving postgraduate education and students’ welfare within the institution.

The meeting was facilitated and midwifed by the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Sunny Ahwefeada, who formally introduced members of the PGSAN executive to the Vice Chancellor and commended the association for prioritizing dialogue and partnership with the university management.

Speaking during the visit, Pastor Ivworin, expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for his consistent support for postgraduate students and his prompt attention to complaints, inquiries, and concerns raised by the association since the emergence of the new executive.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the PGSAN leadership to maintaining a cordial working relationship with the university management in order to promote academic excellence, student welfare, and institutional growth.

Pastor Ivworin also used the opportunity to formally notify the Vice Chancellor of the forthcoming Postgraduate Students’ Summit scheduled to hold in April, noting that the summit would bring together scholars, administrators, and stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting postgraduate education, research development, and student advancement.

He solicited the support and participation of the university management to ensure the success of the programme.

Key issues affecting postgraduate students formed the focal point of discussions during the meeting, particularly accommodation challenges, welfare concerns, academic support structures, and the need for improved communication channels between students and the university administration.

The PGSAN leadership emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment that supports research, innovation, and academic productivity among postgraduate students.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, welcomed the executive members and commended them for their proactive approach and commitment to constructive engagement.

He reaffirmed the management’s dedication to addressing the needs of postgraduate students and strengthening policies that enhance their academic experience within the university.

Prof. Asagba also assured the association of continued collaboration, open communication, and institutional support, stressing that postgraduate students remain a critical component of the university’s academic and research ecosystem.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both the PGSAN leadership and the university management expressing their readiness to work together in synergy to advance the interests of postgraduate students and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the institution.
