Oborevwori Sends 13th-Month Salary Bill To Delta Assembly

The Delta State House of Assembly has resumed plenary after its recess, with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori forwarding a bill seeking the enactment of a law to provide for the payment of a 13th-month salary to eligible public servants in the state.

The bill, alongside other amendment bills, was conveyed to the House in separate letters and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary.

In his letter, Governor Oborevwori said the State Executive Council had earlier approved the payment of a 13th-month salary to public servants as a welfare initiative aimed at boosting workers’ morale, productivity and overall wellbeing.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish a legal framework for the payment of the 13th-month salary, which will be equivalent to one gross monthly salary for eligible public servants. The Governor therefore urged the House to consider and pass the bill.

In a related development, the Governor also forwarded bills seeking to amend the High Court Amendment Law, 2023, and the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal Amendment Law, 2001.

According to him, the amendments are necessary to strengthen the administration of justice in the state.

The proposed amendment to the High Court Law seeks to increase the number of judges in the Delta State High Court from 45 to 50, including the Chief Judge, while the number of judges of the Customary Court of Appeal would increase from nine to 12.

Governor Oborevwori said the proposed increases would enhance the effective and efficient administration of justice in Delta State.

Meanwhile, the Governor has nominated Mr. Emasogbe Matthew Oghene for appointment as the Auditor-General of Delta State, following the retirement of the former Auditor-General. The Speaker directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk on or before Monday, September 7, 2026.

Mr. Emasogbe is expected to appear before the House for screening on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The Governor also notified the House of his intention to proceed on a two-week working leave beginning Monday, September 7, 2026.
