Uvwie Schools Confirm Preparedness For External Exams, Commend Okowa

Some public and private schools in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State have stated their preparedness for the forthcoming external examinations.

The schools which were visited by our correspondent for comments on their state of preparedness for the external examinations include the famous Urhobo College, Effurun, Our Lady’s High School, Effurun, Ekpan Secondary School, Ekpan, Edulyn Group of Schools, Ekpan and City Child Foundation School, Ekpan amongst others.

The Principal of Urhobo College, Effurun Mrs Patience Awusi assured that the school was prepared for the external examinations as she said that there was serious preparatory classes going for students.

She also expressed delight over the zeal of students to learn and of teachers to teach.

Mrs Awusi also commended parents for the adequate provision for resumption of their children.

She was also full of praises for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the the provision of facilities against the spread of covid-19.

However in the neighbouring all female mission owned Our Lady’ s High School, Effurun, the Principal was not on seat when our correspondent called but the secretary of the school, Mrs Dorah Maduike disclosed that lectures would commence during the weekend.

She said: “We were informed of resumption only last Monday 3rd August, 2020 and that was when I passed on the information to parents and students. Hopefully, students would start arriving as from tomorrow Thursday as this school is a boarding school.”

She assured that the school was fully prepared to implement measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID – 19, saying “there are enough classrooms to operate even three students to a class room.”

Mrs. Maduike however said that the school has not gotten any facility on prevention of the spread of the disease from Delta State Government at the time of filling this report.

At Ekpan Secondary School, Ekpan, it was the same assurance of preparedness as the Vice Principal, Mrs Veronica Onome Nkata, proudly disclosed that the teachers were doing what they know best, preparing students for the external examinations.

While she also hailed Governor Okowa for the provision of facilities against the spread of COVID-19, Mrs Nkata however appealed that he should give the school a face lift as she bitterly complained that the classrooms, teachers room and laboratories were nothing to write home about.

In Edulyn Group of schools, Ekpan, the principal, Mr Okrika Adogbeji also assured that the school was fully prepared for the external examinations.
“We started preparation far back as April through online, knowing too well that it is external examinations.”

While saying that the school was fully equipped against the spread of Covid-19, he said that the school did not get any facility against the spread of Covid-19 from Delta State Government at the time of filling this report.

At City Child Foundation School, Ekpan, the proprietress, Mrs Rose Obi who happens to be the Chairman of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Uvwie Chapter, proudly disclosed that schools owned by members of the association in the area were prepared for the external examinations.

The renowned counselor however advised students to be more serious with their studies so that they can come out in flying colours.

Saying that NAPPS members in Uvwie Local Government Area were also fully equipped against the spread of COVID-19 in their schools, she reasoned that children of the downtrodden attend public schools, adding: “So public schools deserve to be provided with basic facilities against the spread of COVID-19.”

She therefore commended Governor Okowa for providing facilities against the spread of covid-19 in public schools in the state.
