Budget Defence: Aniagwu Makes Case For Better Funding Of Information Sector In Delta

The Commissioner for Information, Delta State, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has advocated more funds to be allocated to the information sector to enable it fulfill its mandate of properly publicizing the policies and programmes of government.

Aniagwu made the appeal when he led a team of the ministry officials and managers of the parastatals to defend the ministry’s proposed budget for 2021 financial year held at the Felix Ibru Secretariat, Asaba.

The commissioner stated that apart from the core mandate of the ministry, proper funding would ensure that the media space was well occupied through effective information gathering and dissemination.

According to the government, proper information management would help to reduce the influence of those who may decide to misinform the people to create atmosphere of rancour.

Highlighting the needs of the parastals, the commissioner argued that there was the need to reposition the state organs charged with Information management which included Delta Broadcasting Service in Asaba and Warri as well Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited (DPPL) and the Government Printing Press to function optimally.

In his response, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Barry Gbe commended the Commissioner for prudent management of resources available while promising that his ministry would continue to give support to enable the Ministry of Information continue to contribute in enhancing the ‘Stronger Delta’ mandate.
