New executive members have been sworn-in to pilot the activities of the vigilante group in Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State.
The names of the new executive are: Dele Orishedere, CSO; Atakeremre Sylvester, Admin; Sunday Ideh, Treasurer; Kenneth Obalakpololo, OC Operation; Felix Ogboru, Fin. Sec and Ese Ovo, PRO.
The swearing-in ceremony of the executive and inauguration of the group took place at the Abraka Police Division on Sunday, November 15, 2020.
In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the council, Chief Faith Majemite, represented by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Intelligence and Security Gathering, Hon. Tony Edafiogho, said she will do her best to back the group.
On his part, the DCO 1, SP Tanko Jandwa, said that vigilante members are to assist the police to carry out their tasks effectively.
“Be people of good conduct. Be careful how you handle arms and be of good conduct. You must control your temperament,” he added.
“The police in Abraka will not condone vigilante members giving information to criminals.
“We will work in synergy with the vigilante group in the town and from time to time give you tips to aid you in your roles. We believe that we will all succeed in securing the community,” he said.
Also, Lt. A.J. Minna, in charge of the army formation in Abraka/Obiariuku communities, promised to mobilize his men to give the group the needed support, saying that his doors are open, as he urged them not to be biased in all that they do.
Also speaking, Hon. Edafioghor, Emmanuel Idogho, President General of the kingdom, Mr. Omouvie Ogboru, CEO, Regent Hotels and Comrade Bayo Eyube, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation in their separate speeches gave goodwill messages to the group tasked with the responsibility to carry out community policing of the university town.
Edafiogho said: “Your motto is ‘VGN say no to crime’ and you must stick to this.
According to him, they must not put money as their motivating factor, but assured that the Governor of the state has assured that they will be taken care of this time around and has asked that a specified number of names be sent to him from every ward.
The PG assured the group of the community’s support, saying that there will be a difference this time around in their operations.
Ogboru, representing other business operators in the area disclosed how he once functioned as a vigilante member many years ago.

He continued: ‘You must take the group to the highest heights and do the needful.”
Eyube, who expressed excitement that the group was back on track, promised to work closely with them to enable them achieve their aims and objectives.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant of the Vigilante Group, Hon. Monday Obueherisi, while calling on the members to respect their leader, Dele, urged them to protect businesses in the community, as he tasked them to deal with crime and criminality and not be found considering family ties with anyone that is found wanting.
“Get a town crier and let him announce in the community that parents should caution their children from any involvement in crime and at the same time a red signal should be sent to all criminals in the town to flee the community,” he added.
A reception followed immediately at the Town Hall for guests and well-wishers.
