Ugborhen: Controversy As Aspirant Disassociates Self From Community’s Election

Tension is heightened in a community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, Ugborhen Community over a purported election on Saturday that saw Mr Nelson Ukoko emerging as the new President General of the community

Issues arose days to the election following a security report by the Sapele Local Government council chairman, Hon Eugene Inoaghan who postponed the election till further notice

Meanwhile, Oasis Magazine (OM) gathered that the community election, postponed and repeatedly announced on Friday night was held on Saturday morning with Mr Nelson Ukoko emerging as the preferred choice of who pilots the community’s affairs.

Mr. Davidson Ameye, one of the aspirant for the position of the President General of the Ugborhen Community election, has expressed total dissatisfaction, and outmost dismay at the manner in which the alleged process went on, at Ugborehen on Saturday, saying it is “their kangoroo election, capable of causing chaos in the community and a process against the constitution of Ugborhen as amended recently.”

Adding: “I was not present at the election following a security report after a security meeting by the Sapele local government chairman and the interim committee and it was said that the election has been postponed because of security reasons that was why I wasn’t there”.

He went on “after registration, collection of expression of interest form, we were asked to come for screening which we did; and surprisingly over night, we were told that my opponent Mr. Ukoko Nelson was selected as the President General and this is against the construction of the community and I want to say clearly that the election is not accepted by me”.

He also accused the former interim chairman of the community, Mr Philip Mebradu of being bias, adding that it was clear that he is working for Mr Nelson.

According to him, “there are so many actions that he took that points to his choice of candidate, from the forms he issued to aspirants, to the conditions attached to returning the forms, Mr Mebradu was bias” saying that the community shouldn’t have settled for him as the interim president and organiser of the election

While thanking the community for their support, he called on them to remain calm.

He said: “We will not keep quiet while they steal our mandate through their crooked means; we will continue to remain calm and begin the process of retrieving our mandate through legal means. It’s a process, we are prepared to go through,” assuring that the needful will be done as Ugborhen is yet to elect a President General.
