Delta: Appointments Of Four Commissioners For Education, Two For Works, Another Circle Of Unpleasant Wastage -APC

…Wants Deltans To Reject Move

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, has reacted to the recent appointments of four Commissioners for education and two Commissioners for works in Delta State, saying this move is “another circle of unpleasant wastage.”

A statement on Monday signed by Sylvester Imonina, Esq., Publicity Secretary (Caretaker), APC, Delta State, said that “the worries of Delta APC is predicated on the fact that because of economic downturn plaguing the world, saner Goverments are circumspect in decisions that have the potential to depleting States’ scarce resources.”

Adding: “Recent events in Delta State have shown that the PDP led-Government have scored hat-trick in economic wastages and indifference to the economic well-being of Deltans! True to the boasting of the Governor about three months ago that he was going to play politics to the detriment of good governance, his recent appointments have shown that he no longer cares about the ordinary Deltans but only his ego.”

Continuing, APC said “while Deltans are yet to recover from the economic drains of over two thousand unwanted appointed political Aides who are mostly dead woods, the Governor has once again placed more financial burden on Deltans by appointing four Commissioners for education and two Commissioners for works!”

“The portfolios for the education Commissioners are; Commissioner for higher education, Commissioner for technical education, Commissioner for basic and secondary education and Commissioner for primary education.

“In the works ministry, he appointed Commissioners for rural roads, and highways and urban roads respectively! A cursory look at these appointments/portfolios leaves no one in doubt that they were made as “jobs for the boys”, not for the sake of delivery of dividends of democracy to Deltans,” the statement said.

According to Delta APC, “two vibrant hands can conveniently man ministry of education, as against the appointments of four Commissioners! Also, one vibrant and capable Deltan can handle the ministry of works, instead of two people.”

Furthermore, the party said that while Deltans wallow in abject poverty, “every newly appointed Commissioner is entitled to at least a non-refundable sum of sixty million Naira as take off allowances,” and described this as “an economic drain!”

The party noted that the “Constitution only says that every Local Government Area is entitled to a civil Commissioner in the State Executive Council” and that “there is no justifiable reason for the appointments of people whose services are not needed before any serious minded Government could achieve her programmes for the citizenry!”

Delta APC therefore called on Deltans to “reject this amorphous portfolios/conduit pipes,” adding that “the State Governor should be called upon to downsize his cabinet and huge political Aides.”

“The Governor should desist from underdeveloping Deltans at the altar of politics. Deltans need more monies for the development of the State,” the party stated.
