Jones Erue, APC Candidate Lose Polling Units As PDP Wins Isoko Bye-Election

Hon Ovuakpoye Evivie, of the People’s Democratic Party PDP  has been declared winner of the  Isoko South, state constituency bye-election, held on Saturday 11.

According to the results as announced by INEC, APC polled 1,301 Votes, PDP 6,907 Votes and SDP 1,291 Votes.

Ejes Gist news reports that the Delta State APC Chairman, Prophet Jones Erue lost his polling unit and ward to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the said election.

It was also gathered that Ogaga Ifowode, the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, for the bye-election also lost his polling unit.

Reports also show that Jones has never for once won his ward since he emerged the State Chairman.

Oasis Magazine reports, that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has experimented for the first time with the use of the Bimodial Voter Accreditation System BVAS, in Saturday’s Isoko South state constituency bye-election.

While the majority of young voters in the area expressed satisfaction with the new accreditation and voting system, a few older voters who may not have updated their voting cards encountered some difficulties.

Meanwhile, one person was reportedly shot and killed during the election after gunmen hijacked the ballot in unit 5, Ward 10.

While monitoring the progress, INEC’s National Commissioner for the South-South region, May Agbamuche-Mbu, acknowledged the BVAS’s minor shortcomings but stated that the exercise would be perfected in the upcoming Anambra Governorship Elections.

While APC and SDP candidates lauded the outcome of the use of the Enhanced Smart Card Reader, they also identified areas where INEC could improve.

Despite the difficulties, the majority of voters in the election want INEC to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in the 2023 general election.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, or B-VAS, is a multifunctional integrated device that serves as a Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) during voter registration, voter accreditation on Election Day, and also as an INEC Results Viewing Device (IReV Device) for Election Day results upload.
