PRESCO Security Allegedly Kills 15-Year-Old Boy in Ovre-Eku Community

By Ukane Godwin
There is tension in Ovre-Eku community of Ethiope East Local Government area of Delta State as a security guard of Presco PLC, allegedly killed a 15 year old boy identified as Obruche Ukueku in the early hours of Monday, 28th March, 2022.
However, the reason why the security guard shot Obruche Ukueku to death is still yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.
But, a source from Ovre-Eku community who spoke on condition of anonymity hinted, that, “the management of PRESCO illegally erected a gate to block the only entrance of people who are mainly farmers to the community without the consent of the indigenes of Ovre-Eku who are the owners of the land.
“When we saw the gate, we therefore called the attention of PRESCO to order to remove the gate because, that is the only entrance of people to and fro, in the community, and also is the only way in and out for farmers.”
Speaking further, the source also said, “we have called them (PRESCO management), to order severally over the removal of the gate but, they did not pay attention, and when it became unbearable to us, the women of the community (Ovre-Eku), resorted to peaceful and orderly protest carrying placard with different inscriptions such as “Presco remove your illegally erected gate from the entrance of our land.”

“So the protest was on peacefully when suddenly Presco Security guard on Police uniform allegedly shot Obruche Ukueku who is not among the women protesting for the removal of the gate and he died on the spot,” the source said.
The source posited that the deceased was even coming from the other side of the gate when the security man shot at him and he died at that moment.
According to him, the lifeless body of Obruche Ukueku was as well whisked away by the security guard to an unknown destination.
The source also said that the matter has been reported to Abraka Police station for investigation, while efforts to reach out to PRESCO management, Delta State Police public Relations Officer (PPRO), the chairman of Ethiope East Council, Hon. Victor Ofobrukueta was not successful.
