Tinubu Sacks Wale Edun, Appoints Taiwo Oyedele As New Finance Minister

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, relieving Mr. Wale Edun of his appointment as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while elevating Mr. Taiwo Oyedele to take over the position.

The development was announced in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, according to a report by Western Post published on Tuesday.

Edun, who had served as Minister of Finance since August 2023, was directed to hand over to Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance after his nomination and confirmation in March 2026.

The memo stated that all handing-over and taking-over processes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Also affected by the reshuffle is Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who was relieved of his appointment as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the ministry, pending confirmation.

Explaining the decision, Akume said the changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance, and ensuring more impactful economic delivery to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu also thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and assured cabinet members that the process of government reinvigoration would remain continuous.
