DELSU VC Appointment: Egwunyenga Is Equal To The Task, Says Muoboghare

–Commends Okowa Over Swift Announcement of New VC

The Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Delta State, Professor Patrick Muoboghare, has said that the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga “is equal to the task”, as he described the incoming VC as “an insider and a friend to the system.”

Muoboghare spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a phone conversation.

Continuing, the commissioner said: “He has ran a tertiary institution before as Chief Executive and a former Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-uku, so there is nothing strange to him when it comes to running a tertiary institution.”

He added: “Although the dynamics are always there, but, I know that he is equal to the task and can deliver. I know him personally.”

On partnering with the incoming VC, this is what he said: “I was Chairman of ASUU for eight years and Egwunyenga was also ASUU Chairman for two years. Can it be better than that?”

Furthermore, he described the selection process that led to the emergence of Egwunyenga as smooth.

Speaking further, he said the swift announcement by the governor of his choice of who becomes the new VC is commendable, saying that this gives the incoming VC enough time to interface with the incumbent and prepare for the task ahead.

He continued: “A new Vice Chancellor has been appointed as expected and the beauty of this particular one is that the appointment was announced about a month to the end of the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor. This gives the incoming VC enough time to interface with the outgoing VC and there would not be any need for acting Vice Chancellor so that when Peretemode’s tenure ends November 29, 2019, a new VC takes over immediately and there will be no vacuum.”

Egwunyenga who emerged best of the 15 professors that were shortlisted for the screening process, although a total of 19 professors applied, clinched the 1st spot ahead of Professors Grace Ogwu and Sam Asagba who came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
